Nurturing Creative Potential: Celebrating National Youth Skills Day with Our Recent Work Experience Placements
As National Youth Skills Day approaches on 15th July, it offers the perfect opportunity to reflect on the importance of giving young people real insight into the working world. In the Re:View studio, we recently had the privilege of welcoming three bright and curious individuals—Cameron, Hayden, and Georgia—who joined us for their work experience placements. Each brought a different perspective, but what united them was their enthusiasm, energy, and eagerness to learn. Their time with us was a powerful reminder of how meaningful these early experiences can be.
Cameron: Discovering the Creative Process
Cameron arrived with an open mind and a genuine curiosity about what happens behind the scenes in a creative studio. Though he’s still exploring where he might take his career, he quickly got stuck into learning new tools and picking up the basics of Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. His confidence grew as he worked on a hands-on project recreating a boxing poster—experimenting with layout, typography, and visual storytelling. He even dipped his toes into the world of digital content, updating audio files on a WordPress site. It was great to see how quickly he adapted and embraced each new challenge.
Hayden: Where Structure Meets Creativity
Hayden came from a slightly different background. A Year 11 student with his sights set on a future in finance, he wanted to see what life looked like in a creative environment—and he flourished. Whether updating blog content on our website or exploring the Adobe suite for the first time, Hayden discovered how creativity and structure often go hand in hand. A visit to a print production facility gave him a fresh perspective on how digital work translates into something tangible, and he left with a deeper appreciation for the many layers behind any creative project.
Georgia: A Vision for a Creative Career
Then there was Georgia, who joined us, already passionate about pursuing a career in the creative sector. Focused and full of ideas, she threw herself into everything we put in front of her. From tackling past client briefs such as branding an architecture/ interior design firm and even designing graphics for an aircraft livery, she treated each task with enthusiasm and intent. As she grew more confident with tools like Photoshop and Illustrator, her creative thinking became more refined. It was clear that Georgia was not only building her technical skills but also developing the mindset needed to thrive in a creative career.
Growing Talent from Within
At Re:View Creative, we’ve always believed that supporting young talent is an investment in the future of our industry. In fact, many of our own team members began their journey with us as interns or placement students. For us, work experience isn’t a box-ticking exercise—it’s a way to cultivate future professionals, offer meaningful mentorship, and build long-term relationships with emerging creatives.
Why Youth Skills Matter
National Youth Skills Day is more than just a date on the calendar; it’s a celebration of potential and a call to action. Young people thrive when given the chance to explore and experiment in real-world environments. The earlier they’re exposed to industry tools, ways of thinking, and real projects, the better prepared they’ll be for whatever comes next.
Cameron, Hayden, and Georgia are all testament to this. Their time with us wasn’t just about learning how to use design software—it was about building confidence, discovering interests, and getting a taste of what’s possible. If their experiences are anything to go by, the future of our industry looks incredibly bright, and we’re proud to have played a small part in shaping it.
