Give a Future

Give a Future

At Re:View, we have a long history of working with local design faculties to give opportunities to promising students. Having worked with the University of Hertfordshire and more recently North Hertfordshire College. We like to think that we have given several students a start on their career journey. Presently, Re:View has nurtured the creative talent of six past interns, all of which were offered full-time roles with us at the end of their internship.

As a company, Re:View feels strongly on the subject of giving back to the industry. We take an active role in bringing through the latest crop of creative talent. We bring young creatives through a positive process at our studio by giving them either a full-time placement or sandwich day working around their coursework, depending on where they are at with their studies.

Being the product of an apprenticeship himself, Chris is a real advocate for on the job training. Training like this is a two-way street as it allows our interns to gain valuable commercial experience in a studio environment whilst allowing Re:View to get a feel for the students and how they will fit into the Re:View team.

Internships can be seen as a dirty word within the design community, primarily down to a minority of unscrupulous agencies taking advantage of unpaid interns to churn out work. Re:View are actively working with local colleges and universities to change this. At Re:View we only offer paid internships. This is only fair and enables the interns to gain valuable experience at no cost to them. Whilst they are with us we me make a conscious effort to nurture their raw talent into tomorrows designers.

Recently, we’ve been working closely with North Hertfordshire College and their Give a Future campaign. These placements enable us to teach their students what happens beyond the classroom by giving them the experience of a commercial studio using professional software and teaching best practices in design.

Coming in at number 7, our latest intern, Is. They’re starting with us and has been shadowing work within the studio along with rolling up their sleeves on a few live projects. Impressing us in their limited time here – watch this space to see if we make it 7 out of 7 on our intern to junior designer ratio!

Dear Chris,

I am writing to express my sincere thanks for working with our students this year and for the time you have given to support the success of our Give a Future campaign.

This year has, without doubt, been challenging for everyone across the country, and for a business to continue providing support for our students during this time, is commendable. The barriers you have faced as employers and the desperate need for our students to make positive steps towards a career in your industry has meant that our engagement with employers has looked very different, but nonetheless has continued to have a significant impact.

Your support this year has ensured that our students have continued with meaningful employer interactions, something we value highly at North Hertfordshire College. Feedback from both students and college tutors has been overwhelmingly positive and with clear impact on student progress within their qualification.

I know the team will be in touch again over the summer. We really hope to further develop our relationship and that you will be able to continue with your support next year. Please do take a look at the website to see how you can get involved going forward: https://www.nhc.ac.uk/giveafuture/

We are also inviting employers to work more closely with college curriculum managers to inform what is happening within your industry, to help shape our qualifications and the student experience we offer. If you would like to be part of this work, please do let the team know when they make contact.

Once again, thank you very much for your support this year and I wish you all the best in what we all hope will be a return to normal life.

Yours sincerely,

Kit Davies
CEO and Principal
